Month Five

May 18, 2009 | Clark

Dear Clark,

This is the month where you became much more portable. We took you on a plane for the first time, (For the record, A- on the way there, B-/C+ on the way home) and also, you learned to love your Ergo carrier, which RULES. It’s so fun to wear you, all close and snuggly. I also feel, in general, like now we could take you almost anywhere and you’d be able to hang.

You have two teeth now, and man, those suckers are sharp. (Sidebar for those reading along in 2009, you know that video on the Youtubes with the cute brittish kids? Charlie! It huuuuhrts! We say that all the time.) There’ve been some rough days, with the teething. Only 18 more to go, kid!

You’ve become a whiz at bouncing in your doorway jumping chair thing. I have no pictures of this, because you bounce bounce bounce so much that you’re always blurry. You’ll have to take my word for it, but it’s the cutest thing ever. Especially when you tire of it and start to cry, but you can’t stop bouncing.

Hanging out on your tummy and holding your head up, is no big whoop for you now, either. It’s still not your favorite thing, though.

Clark, my boy, I can’t believe how much I love you! You may be thinking, yes, duh, of course you do, but I really feel like this month something changed. You’ve become such a nice little companion. I miss you so much when we leave you with Grandma. I ache to have your little body in my arms. People are always telling me how fast this all goes, and how much I’ll miss this time, but I have to say, I’m loving you getting bigger, older, and more alert. I want so badly to know what’s going on in there, behind that twinkle.

Love, Mama

  1. You have such a handsome boy! And it was such a kick to spend time with you yesterday – thanks for sacrificing the time with your growing Clark. XO. PS – I am F-R-I-E-D (and foolish!).

  2. It’s so fun to see their personalities emerge. While I miss holding my nephew in a little bundle in my arms, I love having conversations with him and hearing what’s going on in that little head of his.

Clark is such an adorable kid.

  3. He is so adorable, Jenny. I just love the twinkle in his eyes. What a happy little man you two are raising!

  4. Oh my gosh! I can’t believe how time flies. I can’t wait to have my own cuddle with Clark in just under a month now. He will be (count it) 6 months then. CRAZY! All I can say is it keeps getting better and better. I am loving my girls ages right now. Non stop fun, and a lot more sleep. :) Plus they love to cuddle now even more than they did then. Squirmy little buggers babies are!

  5. Happy Big-5 Clark! And congrats, Jenny, on more and more of these beautiful, light-filled photos of your family as you learn together. Seriously diggin HairySB with his aviators and oranges, with Clark just barely peeping out. When he’s older, that kid will have so many great ways to actually *see* what cool people his parents were, way back in the day. :)

  6. He’s adorable!
My baby girl will be 5 months tomorrow. She holds her head up great but HATES tummy time too.

  7. Rona: DUDE. SO SO FRIED. And clark keeps grabbing it with his tiny sharp fingernails. We are SOOOOOO stupid! You had sunscreen in your purse for fuckssake.

Sizzle: Right? I’m so excited to have a KID. Babies a re sewwt and cuddly and all, but I want to show him things and take him places and whatnot.

hliv: I am so hoping that I still get to cuddle him as he grows up. It’ll kill me when he wont let me anymore.

emilie: Awwww! That’s so nice! I only hope he cares to look at them, because lord knows, I have monyains of memoribilia.

Jinxy: Really? Good. I figured maybe he should be doing it more by now, but it’s more like he rolls there, then he’s like, this sucks!

  8. I can’t say enough how amazingly beautiful that boy is. Isn’t the Ergo a joy? At 11 months I carry Wyatt every single place I go. He’s super active and not into cuddling anymore, so that’s my only snuggle time! For us, 5 months was about the time Wyatt wasn’t portable anymore -grabbing everything he could get his hands on! So glad Clark is enjoying his carrier. To see him all content on Aaron is just so amazing. We are so excited to see you soon. Wyatt keeps asking when can he play with his buddy…..
