Strikes and Gutters, Ups and Downs

January 9, 2009 | Clark

First of all, thank you all so much for your comments and emails about my last post. I guess I made things sound a little more dire than they actually are. Yes, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I’m fine, we’re fine.

There are just as many wonderful moments as there are difficult ones. The smell of his little head, the many many faces he makes while he’s sleeping, getting to put him in fresh fuzzy jammies, these things bring me so much joy. The best, though, is when someone else has been holding him and he starts to cry and they hand him back to me, I can feel his tense little body relax and just melt in to me. Me! I’m his mama.

My friend Stepheni that I met at the Me Ra Koh workshop came over the other day and took pictures of us. This one is my favorite. It makes me feel like the two of us are going to make it.

  1. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, you’ll make it. But damn, a new mama just has some posts like that. I went through two weeks about six weeks into it where I was convinced that my baby didn’t like me. Later on I went, Oh, so that’s what the baby blues feel like. I had some similar ones, back in June/July of 2007. Love the photos, you guys look beeuteeful.

  2. The expression on Clark’s face makes me giggle! You both look lovely. Can’t wait to see you for real. XO.

  3. Ditto Rona’s comment; I love Clark’s expression! That’s a great photo.

  4. His face is to die for in that picture. That’s definitely got to be a favorite. How great that you’re surrounded by all these wonderful photographers, including you! :) Also, you’re absolutely going to be fine – and I’d be surprised to hear if anyone of your readers got the impression that things were “too” tough. But the tough stuff of being a new mom wants us all to reach out and support as much as possible; your capability is never in question, either. You’re one of the strongest women that I know, Jenny! I’m so proud of you!

  5. Clark’s expression looks like: Help…she kisses me like this all day long! My cheeks are getting chapped!

  6. Love the picture. Go Mama.

And stop apologizing for speaking the truth! We wouldn’t be checking in and commenting if we didn’t want to hear it all. The bad and the good.

  7. Look at those boy’s eyes! What a flirt! And this is a lovely photo of you both. I can see why it’s your favorite. :D

  8. It is all part of parenthood.

I still maintain it is worth it. Just wait until he can say “I love you, Mommy.”

  9. I can really see SB in that picture of Clark! Love you and thinking of you!! We are having our own parenting stress here and wondering how anyone ever survives raising a child!!

  10. You look beautiful as usual!

  11. Hee Hee… I posted more of these photos on my blog tonight ;)

  12. Ok, after seeing all of them, i LOVE the nose nuzzling one. Also the one two before where you’re smiling so genuinely. Oh and also, the sneak peak of clark. There all great. . . .

  13. Ah, Jenny! You’re meant to be where you are. Thanks for sharing all your moments and pictures with us. Your voice needs to be published. And the pics speak another thousand words. Thanks for being you and for bringing sunshine to all of our lives with your blog.

Clark is in the house and will be for some time. I can’t wait to see all our kids playing together sometime soon.

    We love all y’all.

  14. Thank you everyone, so much. I can’t tell you how much all this encouragement means to me.

I hope to return to my habit of responding to each comment individually, but my internet time is a bit limited right now. Just know that I am still very much appreciating it when you take the time to comment. :)

I'm Jenny. I'm in my 30's, I live in Tacoma, Wa, and I've been married to SB since we were children. We added baby Clark to the family in December of 08. This blog really has no point, it's just about me trying to live as zestily as possible while sharing observations and rants with you all. Speaking of which, you should start a blog. Blogging kicks ass.
