Jason's birthday was never celebrated as a child as its New Year's Day so everyone always worn out NY Eve partying the night before, no-one ever did anything besides lump his xmas present together with his birthday. He never had parties as a kid so now as a grown up i always make sure his birthday present is bigger than his xmas present to make up for his lost childhood birthdays. now we have set a great tradition of going for a tasty birthday curry every new year's day as the curry house is the only place open and its nice to have the spice after all the xmas food and its always easy to get a baby sitter on NY day so birthdays are much better as a grown up and the curry is part of the traditional festivities now. PLEASE never lump your xmas and birthday presents together

I went into labor the day AFTER a 12 hour shift :) And I need to talk with your friend Amy, as I ALSO have a Jan 2nd birthday (me and little brother both, two years apart to the day). I will admit, that day can suck a touch for birthdays. Everybody is broke, hung over, partied out, and school isn't in yet so you can't bring cupcakes and no mother has the energy to plan a birthday party (much less two for my poor mother). However, my youngest brother is a Christmas baby and is spoiled bloody rotten and always had the best birthdays because nobody wanted him to feel left out.

And if you are 10 days overdue and happy about it, you have the best pregnant juju ever and I walk in awe of your powers.

I concur with jonniker. Mine's the 30th, and it kinda blows. When you're a kid, birthday parties are inconvenient because it's right in the middle of the party season, and you do still get lots of combined gifts. It's like the birthday is an afterthought.

Eh. I have a Dec. 27 birthday, and no one really has time for or remembers it then, either -- everyone is just coming down off of the holidays, etc. etc. I will say, however, that it doesn't bother me in the slightest, and that I've always enjoyed my birthday, because it felt like all the festivities were for me, too!

It doesn't really matter. Your babe will be lucky and thrilled no matter when his or her (still totally on the 'her', IMO, as I told you) birthday is.

Don't you look absolutely gorgeous. Speaking from the perspective of a January 2nd B-Day, I do believe you're right. After Christmas may be a bit less stressful. Having said that, any day your little bundle of joy arrives will be just right!

I ended up working until only one week before my due date, because I was SURE Audrey would be late, or at the very least arrive around her due date, and then I went into labor that very weekend, so I got no break between work and baby.

My dad's birthday is the 29th of December, and that is one of our funnest family parties every year. We used to go out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, but now that my bro is such a gourmet cook (and there's babies), we have fancy dinner parties at home. The other bonus with this b-day date is that if we are far-flung for the actual xmas holiday, we can have our family celebration on Dad's b-day. I think that aspect could work for you with a date just before or after Christmas.

I think you might be right on the birthday-after-Christmas thing--I've been known to combine birthday and Christmas gifts for people whose birthdays come right before Christmas, because in the lead-up to the holiday, it's all that's on the brain, but if it's afterward, it's like a separate thing. But my grandma was a Christmas Eve baby, so it was always a really big deal in our family to make her birthday its own special thing, so it will be okay either way!

Also, I very much needed Liam to come after his due date since I had to finish the semester and get all of my grading done before I could go on maternity leave. And he obliged nicely. A week isn't too much to hope for!
