It really ties the room together.

December 1, 2008 | An-nou-ounce-ments

I know it’s been keeping you up at night, so I am here to report that the rug dilemma has at long last been solved.

For your reference, the first one:

This rug was recommended long ago by a lovely blog reader, but it took me a while to convince SB that rugs are expensive and if we wanted a nice one, we were just going to have to pay for it. When discussing this rug with various folks, some were like, “That’s not that bad, we bought one double that price,” and some, like my cheapass thrifty mom, would nearly fall over and die. But for some reason, getting a rug became a fixation for me, like we couldn’t POSSIBLY have a baby with these bare, cold floors. Then, because SB loves me and is kindly putting up with my hormonally induced craziness, when his work finally reimbursed him for some business expenses last week, I finally got to get it. And now the baby can come. (JUST KIDDING.)

Also, did you know that nice rugs made of nice wool shed a bit at first?

  1. That’s actually a great price for that size rug. I just bought a rug at Ikea this weekend which was under $50 but not padded. I couldn’t commit so for months I’ve been hemming and hawing. It’s worth it to pay for the ones you like.

  2. YAY! I do SO love this rug and am ecstatic that it works for you. You’ll love it. It’s worth every penny. And the best way to cut down the shedding is to get a vacuum that doesn’t have a rotating brush. Woo hoo!

  3. Yep. That’s the perfect rug. You nailed it! And it looks so cozy in your room. It’s like an ad with Freya chilling in the corner and your perfectly adorable tree.

  4. I love your cute little tree! And the rug is faboo, good choice!

  5. Fabulous…I love the first rug, and still prefer the pattern, but it wasn’t nearly big enough for the space. Now you got it. And your tree is so great!

  6. Love it! Love it! Love it! And glad my mom isn’t the only one who’s, err … “thrifty.”

  7. It looks spectacular! So glad that it’s solved. I also have a tendency to become fixated on finding a piece for our household that is just right & won’t quit until it is just right.
    Your tree looks great too.
    xo

  8. I like!

  9. P.S. I can’t wait to see your house + a kid, and all their stuff. It is embarassingly clutter free right now. I was never going to be one of those mom’s that let everything go, now look at me. I will have to post a pic of our living room one of these days.

  10. BTW, and by clutter free I mean SPOTLESS. Even with the puppy.

  11. I second what hliv says. :)

  12. Yeah … that plant and guitar on the floor? hahahahaha … ;)

  13. I totally wasn’t going to be one of those mom’s either!! My mom-in-law just asked me if I could remember life before having the precious little one to devote all my time to, and I said, “Yeah, my house was clean and I could drink!”

  14. too funny peaches and tacomachikadee…also the presents under the tree would be partially unwrapped, and all the ornaments on the bottom few branches

don’t worry jenny! it’s worth the trade. i figure if i’m lucky one day my kids will move out, and I will have my house back

  15. Sizzle: Thanks for the support. It still hurt a bit! The money SB got reimbursed for was the only way it hapened. It was like we had already absorbed those expenses at the time, so when we got the money back it was like, yay! Free money!

rachel: Your suggestion was genius. I have been drooling over it since you sent me the link. It was even hard to decide on the color. At least three of them would have worked for us.

Noreen: Thanks! It was so hard to find something plain enough.

Camille: Thanks! Isn’t my tree cute! :)

hliv: Yeah, we decided that if we were going to do it, we may as well get it as big as we wanted it.

chickadee: I know, right? My mom would DIE if she knew how much this rug cost.

dahli: I’m glad you feel me on the fixation. I could NOT let it go!

    Peaches: Thanks!

chickadee, hliv, peaches: Yeah, yeah, yeah. ALL RIGHT. I get it. I know these tidy days are numbered. I am a compulsive straightener, though, so maybe I’ll be able to preserve SOME sense of order. Maybe? (I can hear you laughing. Stop it.)

  16. Hahahahaaa hhhaaaaaa …. *snort* *choke* *breathe* … hahahahahaaa oh my muahahahahahahaha … *snort snort drool cough cough*

    Ok. I’m done.
