Oops.

November 20, 2008 | I'm so ashamed.

Just when I think I have nothing to blog about besides baby stuff, I go and do something stoopid and amusing that of course must be shared with the internets.

Yesterday, whilst curling my eyelashes, I had some kind of wierd hand spasm or lapse of concentration, and the resulting jerk pulled out about 80% of the eyelashes on my right eye.

Yes, yes I did.

I know you can’t really tell in that picture, but believe me, it’s serious. I have about 10 puny eyelashes left on my right eye. There’s even a huge bald spot in the middle. Thank god for mascara, I guess.

Do eyelashes grow back? Quickly? Please tell me good things.

  1. Don’t worry, they definitely grow back–eyelashes are always falling out and being replaced by new ones (though not so many at a time!) I think it can take anywhere from two weeks to a few months. If the picture’s any indication though, it’s not as bad as you think!

  2. OMG. You are so brave.

Thank god baby jesus in heaven invented fake eyelashes. If this situation cannot be mitigated with mascara you have that to fall back on. According to the internets you only have about 4-6 weeks to wait!

  3. They do grow back fairly quickly … I kinda cut mine off when I was a wee child. Don’t ask what I was thinking. (I thought they were too long …) Just heard my midwife’s kiddo did the same thing, so perhaps I’m not so weird … Ha! Anyhow, I didn’t let my mom cut my bangs until they grew back … it was an awkward month. But soon you’ll have a cutie little squeaker and no one will be looking at your eyelashes! Heck, even now they’re probably staring at your stomach or your boobs. No better time for an eyelash mishap then when preggo! :) And even if someone DOES notice, you can blame ANYTHING on pregnancy … he he he.

  4. Oh ouch! Tacomachickadee is a genius! I’ve heard of women’s hair falling out during and after pregnancy. I see no reason why eyelashes cannot fall out as well! And MAC makes some great falsies than you have them help you shape to look natural if need be.

  5. you only fuel my fear of that midevil torture device…

  6. Now you have your own horror story to add when people tell their horrible pregnancy stories. Calmly say, “And almost ALL of my eyelashes came out of one eye when I was pregnant with my first,” but forget to mention that it was not at all pregnancy related.

  7. I’ve been rereading this and trying to imagine how you DID this? Did it hurt? How do you lose control of an eyelash curler? I need to know for further prevention in my own endeavors.

Recently, however, I will tell you that I somehow lost control of my toothbrush, landing it directly in the toilet. So while this makes sense to me, I need further clarification on how to AVOID.

  8. Ditto Janaya!!

They do grow back, though I’ve never really kept track on how quickly. MAC does have some great falsies or you could go to a beauty school and see if they could put on some semi-perm ones for you in the meantime.

  9. beth c: eyeliner and mascara work miracles, but really, without them, it looks pretty funny.

    Margeurit: I appreciate your research.

chickadee: Good call. It must be the hormones.

Brooke: If it mattered at ALL what I look like these days, I would TOTALLY be going the false route.

janaya: That’s what SB calls it, too!

    Beth: Brilliant!

joniker: Firstly , I have to tell you that I read your comment off my phone to SB while he was driving and he almost had to pull over he laughed so hard. And um, I don’t freaking know! I guess I was squeezing too hard, and then twisted my hand accidently or something?

Camille: Like I said, it is hilarious for me to think ANYONE is noticing my freaking eyelashes with this giant protrusion poking out of my midsection.

  10. You have got to be shitting me. This is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I am laughing hysterically. I think this is funnier than the New Kids post.

I'm Jenny. I'm in my 30's, I live in Tacoma, Wa, and I've been married to SB since we were children. We added baby Clark to the family in December of 08. This blog really has no point, it's just about me trying to live as zestily as possible while sharing observations and rants with you all. Speaking of which, you should start a blog. Blogging kicks ass.
