35 Week Update

35 Weeks

Sorry this is becoming the all baby all the time channel, but will you check out that belly? It is obviously difficult for me to focus on anything else.

I’ve slacked on these updates the last couple of weeks, but all is well. There was a sort of anxious week when we were told that the baby wasn’t in the right position. By 34 weeks, a baby should be head down. It was lying transverse, which means sideways. I knew it was, because it was literally kicking my back, like a few inches down from my armpits. I kept wondering how the hell it was getting it’s feet over there. So, we were given a homeopathic called pulsatilla and told to take it then have SB talk to my crotch, essentially. “Come on down here, baby! Party in the crotch! It’s so fun down here!” This was followed by a detailed retelling of Star Wars, which I was a little worried would have the opposite effect, if the baby takes after me. We did this for about 15 minutes every night. I also borrowed my mom’s inversion table and hung upside down for a bit twice a day.

Then we had an ultrasound to confirm that the baby was not in the right position before bringing out the big guns, (acupunture, acutonics, external inversion, etc) but our efforts had already paid off. The little sucker turned! Yay! (I’m so sorry I called you stupid that one time, baby.)

So now, it’s a whole new world. People kept telling me I looked small when it was lying sideways, but now, look out. It’s out there. My skin feels really tight now, too. And my bladder can hold about a tablespoon of pee, now that there’s a head resting on it. Really, though, I can’t complain. I do not feel as miserable as the books and websites I read are telling me I should. I feel really lucky. I know I may have just invited a plague of nastiness by writing that, but so be it. A bit of misery is expected at this point.

Last weekend, My dear friend Jesse took some beautiful pictures of the belly and me and SB. I’m really glad to have preserved this for posterity’s sake. (If you’re local, knocked up, and interested in something similar, let me know. I can you put in touch with my talented friend!)

I’m going to zero in on the part about Star Wars, because it reminds me of a recent episode of How I Met Your Mother wherein Sarah Chalke played the never-seen-it-before girlfriend who had to pretend to like the movie, “giant bear” and all…

    Check it out.

You’re lucky that SB doesn’t consider your dislike of the franchise a dealbreaker… :-)

I’m very excited – even from far away for SP (small person) to arrive. I feel blessed to have been able to par-take in the adventure. Ya’ll will be FANTASTIC parents… I’m so happy for you!!

Awww…those photos are great! Jesse did a wonderful job, although she did have a gorgeous subject to work with.

Glad the munchkin turned on his/her own!

Amazing pics and how great to have captured this time. You will be so glad to have them and you will look at them and say, “I looked fabulous,” and remember a good pregnancy. Glad you were also able to get the little one to turn. I had to have a C Section because my second was feet down. I kept thinking when I lay propped up in bed at night, sheesh, her ass is hard as a rock, well, it was because it was her head!

Wow…what a great shot of you and the belly and a beautiful one of you and SB. I’m so glad you went the extra mile for the little one and turning him or her the right way. I’ll have to share with Lamont the quotes from the crotch!

  8. Very cool! You look gorgeous and that story is freakin’ hysterical.

That transverse stuff is rather freaky, especially as the preggo one. With number two, the eldest actually kicked him sideways in the last month. All was well for months, then we went in and I was flatter and we couldn’t find a heart beat … freaked me out. Luckily, Little Dude was just sideways. Easily manipulated back. Then the youngest was right position, wrong position, right position, wrong … basically, at final ultrasound, started the session in the wrong position, and finished the session in the right position. (She’s the super-stubborn one …) The day before she was born: Right position. And guess who was born butt first. Baby Girl will always be my “hell what!?!?” giant backwards baby homebirth story. Note: It sounds bad, but she was an easy birth … you just never know. Gotta just let go.
YOU’RE ALMOST THERE! YOU WILL DO GREAT! YOU’LL BE A FANTABULOUS MOMMA!
