Halleluia!

October 17, 2008 | Jenny Recommends

Some of you may be fortunate enough to live in area of the country or part of the world where the presence of an H&M is commonplace. Perhaps you’ve become immune to the euro fashion available in sizes meant for human women, the copious accessories, the irresistible handbags, all available at bargain prices. Well, to you I say, imagine an entire region devoid of such treats, the entire Pacific Northwest with only Target to turn to for the occasional Isaac Mizrahi cheap fashion risk.

Until a couple of months ago, H&M was a treat only sometimes enjoyed on trips to New York, or other proper cities. In fact, I originally knew it as “Hache y Eme”, or, the only store in Barcelona that sold clothing in sizes above 4. Well, a couple of months ago, the Seattle area got not one, but TWO! TWO HACHE Y EMES! I rejoiced, but did not visit, for I knew that I must wait until I am no longer with child to properly enjoy the fruits of H&M. Then the other day, I don’t even know why, I visited their website and learned that HOLY SHIT! H&M has a maternity line! GET. OUT! Then! Then! I called the Southcenter store and learned that THEY CARRY IT! Which I guess not all of them do! A field trip was definitely in order.

You guys! It’s HUGE. It’s like a proper euro one with two floors and an escalator and everything! Now, if you should be local and also knocked up, don’t get TOO excited. The maternity section is all of 10 feet by 12 feet, but I still got three shirts, a nightie, a hat, and and scarf for under $100.

Shirt crisis averted, for at least another few weeks.

  1. Hache et Emeh! Yeah! That was seriously one of the best things about moving to HK. I am so glad you found a few things to pick up your wardrobe. They have great kids clothes to, perhaps you can find something for el bebe.

  2. RICH! Maternity clothes at H&M, the world isn’t so bad, after all. The bridesmaids dresses for my brother’s wedding this summer were from H&M, all scored for under $20 a peice, which was brilliant. They were adorable, flattering to everyone, and a nice slick, almost nylon-y fabric so moms (I think I was one of two moms in the bridesmaid lineup) could wipe them down. Do they sell nighties in just maternity or is your nightie a non-maternity? I’m always on the lookout for good nighties…..H&M nighties, how hip.

  3. Man … the preggo clothes just keep getting cuter and cuter. I should have another! (Not.)

  4. Shut up! I went there last weekend and practically bought out all the shirts. We are probably walking around town looking like twins. ^_^

  5. We are fortunate to have 2 of them in the area. The one in Pasadena is awesome, but the one in West Hollywood is very disappointing. The styles and colors just aren’t me, and I didn’t feel like anything fit right. It sounds like I need to go to the one in Southcenter, which will be on my list when I have some time up there! Love the clothes you bought – so C.U.T.E.!!

  6. What?!? There are TWO H&M’s in Seattle now? Time for a road trip!!! Glad you found some cute maternity stuff there! I can’t wait to go shopping.

  7. There are actually three of them! South Center, Downtown, and the University Village! Fun!

  8. hliv: Yes, I avoided the kid section, as I shouldn’t have been spending money in the first place and I didn’t want to be further tempted.

tia: How lucky to have a $20 H&M bridesmaids dress! What a cool bride! The nightie, BTW, is not maternity, but its stretchy and blousy so it works.

chickadee: Yeah! 4 is such a nice number! ;)

Jess: No way! I bet we do have a few of the same shirts, since there weren’t that many to choose from.

Camille: See, you live in a proper ciy where you have several to choose from.

Brooke: well, apparently, there are three! But you have the tax free shopping, so you still win.

serror: Really? I didn’t know about the down town one! Sweet!
