Yay for weddings!

Let’s move on, shall we? I don’t like seeing so much bitching at the top of my page. Let me show you some fun pictures from my cousin’s wedding over the weekend, instead.

Firstly, here is a picture of the gift I got for them, which I was quite proud of. I went to Target and dutifully printed out their registry, but I didn’t want to buy anything on it. So, I decided that I have good taste and am capable of purchasing off the registry. I know everyone thinks this and they’re usually wrong, but look! I did good.

So cute! I loved the pineapple colander and the random kitchen things they probably don’t have and the useful, quality kitchen towels. Well done, no?

The wedding took place here, an old time-y theater in Puyallup, where incidentally, my Dad had his first job as an usher, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Here we have me and the marrying cousin, my sister and another cousin. Marrying cousin is TALL. He’s sitting and we’re standing.

And look! His bride is tall, too! I love that he didn’t choose some teeny tiny girl who would look just fine with someone 5’9″.

And how cute is this picture of my Dad and my uncle?

Here is my family! I think this is an impressive self portrait, don’t you?

Anyway, it was a fun night. Of all the cousins on that side, this is only our second wedding, so it was special to have everyone together and all dressed up. There was a slideshow with a bunch of pictures of us all as little kids, so that was a nice surprise. All that family togetherness made me think that my kids won’t have lots of aunts and uncles, and as it looks now, maybe not even any cousins. That’s so sad! I know that they will have stand-ins in the forms of my friends and their kids, but I wish English had some sort of word for your chosen family.

Oh Jenny you look so wonderful in your pixs!!

I know what you mean about cousins and families. I have lots but Freya will have very few cousins.

I think you are one of the most radiant pregnant woman I have seen in a while. You are so lovely!!

  2. A mega “here here” on so many counts. I recall the random stuff being one of our best gifts, and we’ve taken that slant ourselves since “everyone” got married after us. (We might need to coordinate before shopping for M & E.)

And another big “here here” for wondering whether our children will ever have cousins. They did get a surprise official one last year, but with five siblings between us, and tons of cousins, it’s a whole one first council and a whole two going on three second cousins for the kids between the sides. It’s part of why I had three kids (I know most of the brothers weren’t, or it would be many, many years from now).

There totally needs to be a word for chosen family … because mine is growing, and is quite precious to me.

I’m with you on the chosen family thing–growing up with NO cousins, not a single one, I was really hoping my kids would have cousins, but since DH’s sister doesn’t want kids and my brother may have kids but MANY years from now, we won’t get that experience of a gaggle of related kids sharing holidays and whatnot.

Also, even when kids have their own actual cousins, they may not see them nearly as often as the children of their parents’ friends. There needs to be a name for that village raising a family!

You did so great on that gift! The colors and arrangement look great, too. I don’t have the monkey peeler, but I have the bird peeler and the bird scissors from that line.

  5. Do you really peel monkeys with that thing?

Colleen: You are so nice, Please go on!

Chickadee: I know what you mean. I don’t really approve of confusing kids by calling friends aunts and uncles, but I want a word LIKE that.

beth c: Totally. I’m glad you are part of my village. :)

Swistle: I knew you would love it! I got the monkey peeler idea from you.

    Chickadee: HA!
