Another of the many exciting things I was dying to blog about while ZE was broken was my procurement of NKOTB tickets. WEEEEEEE!
I AM SO EXCITED. I don’t know what it is exactly, maybe just nostalgia, but when I saw them on the Today show, I was GIDDY. I couldn’t help the giant smile on my face and the desire to squeal in as high a pitch as possible. Then one day, I just happened to be driving past the Tacoma Dome and saw the announcement that tickets were going on sale that Saturday and I knew I must attend. I was fully prepared to drag SB, but then I just happened to mention it to the right friends and when their faces drained of all color and the world seemed to stop spinning for a moment, I knew I had found worthy companions.
Something I’ve realized, is that you had to be just the right age to give a shit about the New Kids. I never really think about it, but most of my friends are either a little younger or a little older than me, and in both cases, they just think I’m silly. You may, as well. But DUDE. I can’t wait! I don’t care if they’re old! So am I.
I’m off to doodle Jordan’s name on my notebook and arrange my NKOTB mini-buttons on my jean jacket.
This is why I saw The Monkees. Though one must admit that The Monkeys are more awesome than NKOTB. But if, say, the Spice Girls were to tour again, I might consider letting Meatloaf drive me to that concert.
I am just a TIDGE too old: my best friend’s younger sister just about died from love of them, as did all her peers, but my best friend and I were more like, “Hey, good music!” It’s too bad: I don’t think a girl is complete unless she’s chosen her favorite member of a band, and I can’t think of any bands I did that for.
I remember dancing around my room to them. Not sure about the concert, but that’s probably just because the kids have run me ragged and I’ll just be thankful to see Sex in the City this weekend (hopefully). I think I’ve lost my will to concert. (And yes, I verbed that. And that.)
I am forwarding this link to my sister Kate. She’ll weep with joy for you! I love that you are going. All four of us sisters phone tagged to talk about NKOTB on Today. It was so awesome. I think they all look *much* better than they ever did before. But I wasn’t into them really.
This all reminds me that I have to go organize some things in my Trapper Keeper now.
Ed: Hmm. I’m not sure if one must admit that the Monkees are more awesome than the New Kids. Is one decade’s pop-y schlock any better than another’s? Too bad the Spice Girl’s never made it back to this area. How long was that reunion, like 5 minutes?
Swistle: It’s not too late for you! http://www.nkotb.com/ I recommend Donnie if you were to choose now. My loyalty to Jordan is unflagging, however, Donnie has aged like a fine wine.
chickadee: I agree about the being to old to concert which is the beauty of a T-Dome show! I don’t remember the last time an act I wanted to see performed there. Usually I have to drag my old ass to Seattle.
Noreen: Ah, the Trapper Keeper. It was definitely my first step in day planner obsession. Also, *high five* Kate!
THAT day also happens to be my 40th birthday. And I am NOT too old to see them.
In fact, the N’Sync concert I saw in my early ’30s was the best thing ever and I’m looking for a repeat of the boy band action.
p.s. I do not know how I ended up here. I was not Googling “New Kids on the Block” concerts, I swear.
Regarding “too old to concert”, I still think that someone could make tons of money off of a venue specifically targeted to people older than 30. Show starts promptly at 7pm (maybe 7:30 at latest), no pesky opening act, everyone’s out of there by 9:30 at the latest and can go home for a good night’s rest…
Jenny: Yay Donnie! I think that was my geeky-NKOTB attraction back in the day.
Jamie: Yes! Love it! Spot on!
Noreen: I always wanted a Trapper Keeper. Perhaps it’s not too late …
Okay, this post made expose myself from the depths of LurkerVille! I, too, am SO excited about the NKOTB tour. I felt the exact same giddyness when I saw them on the Today Show.
I can’t believe how much hotter they have gotten. Especially Donnie and Danny! I hate to say it, but I think Jordan is the only one who has regressed on the cuteness scale. My fave was always Jon. Ahhh…be still my heart, he’s so precious.
Anyhow! I’ll be seeing them in Portland the day after you. Floor seats baby!
(By the way, I found you because I’m friends with Jesse. I met you at a pool party at your parents for Jesse’s birthday, ummm…6 years ago? A long time ago. My friend Leann and I had come up from Portland. Love your blog!)
I’m neither too young nor too old.. ripe old age of 26-ish.. I heart NKOTB…Give Jordan a big ole kiss for me..
San Diego Momma: Hi there! Welcome! Your blog is funny! Just checked you out. Happy 40th in November.
jamie: Your idea is BRILLIANT. We are the ones with the money to go to concerts anyway, right? Plus, many of the acts I want to see are in their 30′s as well, and I bet they would like to get to bed at a decent hour, too!
Brooke: Hi there! Crazy! I remember back then when Jesse invited people she met on the internet, I thought she was so weird! HA HA HA HA! Can you believe how HOT Donnie is now? You should rent The Kill Point if you haven’t seen it yet. It a series he did on the fx network and it’s really good! Just 8 episodes, I think.
Shannon T: Hi! I will if I get the chance! You better believe it! Course, I’ll be hugely pregnant by then.
