Woe.

On my way to a beautiful Sunday brunch up in Seattle at the Boat Street Cafe, I got rear-ended. In my formally perfect Prius. My less than 6 months old Prius. In my black, shiny, loved-too-much Prius.
But I’m fine. The other driver was fine. He had insurance. It’s just an accident. (if I keep repeating all this to myself, maybe I’ll stop crying…)
As with most things, there was some humor in the situation. This happened at the intersection of 1st and Pike, right in front of the Pike Place Market. I was stopped at the light, looking at all the tourists, admiring the flowers, congratulating myself for being on time, when SCREEEEEECH! CRASH! He plowed right into me.
We pulled over, exchanged all the info, the cop came, etc, etc. Then two funny things happenned.
1. the cop goes, “Oh, it’ll be fine. We’ll just get you an Obama sticker to slap over that.”
2. the guy that hit me had Oregon plates and was a tourist. In his limited English, after the exchange of insurance, the accident report and all, he asked me for directions to “the Space Tower.” He must have been admiring the market, too.

(These scratches go all the way across, and that’s part of the bumper dangling there at the bottom. Ouch.)

Oweeee! I’m so sorry. It’s tales like these that make me fear one day owning a new car …

Poo! My car was hit tonight. I’m sitting here waiting for the police officer to show up so I can file an insurance claim. Of course, mine is a 1996 Honda Civic, so I only feel about 1/12th of your pain. And my Obama sticker is already on the bumper. Love you tons, see you soon!

oh, you poor, poor thing!
I am so sorry! The only time I have ever owned a brand-new car, I got rear-ended after only three weeks. The guy who hit me walked back from our vehicles, picked up my cardboard, temporary plate and said, “is this yours?”
I drove that car into the ground. Oh, I loved her!
I’m glad you were both (you and the other driver) okay, and I hope that your darling Prius can be repaired quickly!

Sadness!!! I’m so sorry to hear about your new ride! I LOVE the comment by the cop, though–frickin’ hilarious!! We were in Tahoe a couple weekends ago and our truck parked at home got TOTALED by a drunk driver. We were just happy that he hit our empty car and not one filled with people. Good thing we were away, or both cars would have been jacked up. Quite something to return home to see your smashed car hogging the sidewalk! Plus, we are getting a ridiculous amount of $$ from insurance, and it’s made Danny start his bike commuting again. Audrey says, “Daddy Bike Work Bye-Bye!”

Oh Jenny! I am so sorry about your baby. I hope it is fixed quick. Can you get me an Obama sticker too while you are at it?

Big hugs to you!

Glad you are ok even though it is sucky to have car damage. Just keep telling yourself it was just an accident. At least there was comedic moments, right?
Is Boat Street Cafe a good brunch spot? I am always in search of new places.

chickadee: Word. It’s stressful!
Rona: That is still sucky!
misskate: That is TRAGIC. I at least got 6 pristine months.
peaches: That’s super lame! Good thing you guys weren’t home! And good for Danny for riding to work!
Rhonwyn: I am not yet ready for the Obama sticker. I will when I have to.
Camille: Thanks, friend.
sizzle: Boat Street was great! Get the Benedict. I have to admit, though, I could have eaten two. It was TINY.
