Hong Kong is wet and chilly. Let’s go to Thailand!
February 26, 2008 | Travel
The day before we left for Hong Kong, Heather called me and said she really needed some sun and would we be up for a last minute trip to Thailand?
Um, yes. Yes we would. So, a ferry and two little flights later, we were relaxing on the beach with a cold Singha.

Oh, also, since it was the last minute, during high season, we were FORCED to take the only rooms available in a 5 star hotel. I won’t tell you how much we paid because it was so cheap you might cry.

I just can’t go on enough about what a great time we had. It was PERFECT. There were several occasions when I thought to myself, life can hold no further perfection than this moment right here. Seriously. This happened when we were lying on the beach, looking at the impossibly perfect water, cold Singha in hand, flipping through an US Weekly or people watching, chitchatting with far away friends like it was nothing. This happened when we got super hot and waded into the sublime Andaman Sea and felt the cool salty water soothe our burny skin. This happened in the evening after a nap and a shower, watching the sun set on our 5 star balcony, with more Singha, naughty vacation ciggies, and fantastic company.
Check this out. For like, 50 cents, I bought this hunk of aloe right on the beach. After a brief stay in the mini bar, this was my best friend for the whole next day.

We were so freaking pampered. One of the days, we got a bit peckish and wondered if we could get any food nearby. Wonder no further, said the nice guy bringing the beers, and then he brought us menus form a restaurant across the street. Ta DA! Phad Thai delivered right to your beach chair.

Yum.

We did manage to put on clothing and go out both nights we were there.
After three lovely days we had to go back to Hong Kong. What a BUMMER.
More Hong Kong adventures to come!

You just, like, spontaneously go to Thailand? You are some of the coolest people I know.

Holy cowabunga! I really can’t say much more to these posts but wow, wow, wow. I’m ecstatic that I get to take my first trip ti Kauai (and Hawaii in general) this September for my brother’s wedding, but this is so, so much further. And not part of the states …

Who knew Thailand was like this? I didn’t. But I don’t know much about anything other than the Mid-West and a few other limited areas. Maybe I’ll have to reshuffle some of my preconceived notions about Thailand and vacationing in general. Plus…I LOVE Phad Thai!

Sigh! I really wish I were back on that beach today! I am already dreaming about 2010. The “Once in a Lifetime” vacation, take 2. Can you say Tahiti?

Camille: If you are serious, I will send you a link for the whole album. I just didn’t want to subject everyone to all gabillion pictures.
Swistle: It WAS pretty crazy of us, I guess. More of that day seizing, I guess
Kate: It was! And we totally went to the Cabo of Thailand and it was STILL awesome.
Chickadee: Kauai? Oooh! I’ve oly been to Oahu and it blew my mind. Hawaii is surprisingly exotic and beautiful for something in the US. (That sounds weird, but you know what I mean.)
Tacoma Friend: It was! You heard the extended version of my Thailand gushing at girl’s night.
Aubrey: Thailand is SO. AWESOME. I can’t wait to go back. I’d love to venture off the beaten path a bit more.
dahli: I knew you were kidding! BTW, you and Randy are prominently displayed on the Melver’s fridge.
hliv: TAAAHHH-HIIII-TIII. 2010. Done.
