You’ve probably seen Juno already, right? Well if you’re like me and hardly ever drag your ass to a movie, this one’s worth it. And the soundtrack is great! We listened to it all weekend.
In other news, I finally banished the black hair. I’ll post a picture soon. And I started tanning. (Yes, yes, I know.) But I was feeling REALLY goth, which is not the look I was going for.
Locals, are you snowed in? I didn’t even know about it until I was walking out the door, balancing my purse, gym clothes and coffee. Ah, shit, said I. But I forged ahead anyway, and made it to work faster then usual. Wonders never cease.
Finally, in Netflix news, we watched Sicko last night. Again with the, “I’m sure you’ve already seen it” but if perhaps you haven’t, it’s worth watching. It really debunks a lot of the propaganda about how government run healthcare is slow, makes the Dr’s poor, people don’t like it, etc. Apparently people in other countries are accustomed to hour long emergency room waits and free care when they need it. Huh!
1. Juno = Fantastic movie, fantastic soundtrack. I actually just downloaded the whole album today! I love Kimya Dawson!
2. Black hair got tired for me a while back, too. Now I’m growing my mane out, but it looks like shit. Good for you for getting a little bit of Vitamin E/D (whatever it is) during the winter. I’ve actually heard that light tanning can boost your mood and make your skin a bit healthier. Who knew!
3. Snow! I’m jealous. I mean, it is January and DC has only had snow once.
4. Sicko made me want to move to France! I mean, 6 mo. PAID maternity and 6 mo. UNPAID! Damn.
Loved Juno, love your hair all the time. Get this – my NATUROPATH suggested that I start tanning in the winter for the vitamin D (I almost typed VD, but realized that would likely be misinterpreted by at least one of your fair readers!). Snow, bleagh. Jill is welcome to it (love you Jilly!). I like it on wintry vacations or drives to nearby mountains, but it can damn well stay out of my commute (says the girl whose car fender is misshapen after today’s drive)! XO.
That’s right, ladies, I’m tanning for my health! Yeah. That’s what I meant.
Movie talk? I’m in~
I noticed you saw Old Country a while back. It was very violent and kind of traumatizing. Dh and I saw it on a “romantic” anniversary getaway and let’s just say, it wasn’t appropriate. I much preferred Big Lewbowski (10/10), Fargo (10/10), Raising Arizona (9/10), O Brother, Where Art Thou? Old Country, a measly 5/10.
Juno. Loved it! 10/10 I need comedies in my life right now. I wasn’t a huge fan of the twee music, but then, I like the White Stripes, so… But, minor point. Loved the humor and the themes. And I know someone who knows the screenwriter, Diablo Cody! So do you! This is very cool.
Sicko. Made me literally nauseated to be a USAmerican. Esp b/c I have 2 kids that are too old to be on our insurance unless in full time college. One is in full time college and one was but no longer is. This really sucks. Of course they don’t have jobs with health insurance and neither do their SOs. Movie: 10/10
One more movie I disagree with the critics on was Atonement which we saw last weekend. The first half was gorgeous and sexy, the 2nd half was pretentious and draggy and almost amateurish seeming in parts. Save your money and rent it later. 6/10
Hair: going back to a lighter color? I approve.
I haven’t been out to see movies in months, and now all of a sudden I am gobbling them up, feeling like every excursion to the movie theater will be my last. As one of them, I’m sure, will be. Although the “movie theater” for me is usually the 2nd run theater pub down the street from my house, so I’m seeing movies that are thisclose to being released on video anyway. I did make it to the “real theater” to see Juno, however, and I’m so glad I did, although I don’t think that girl was NEAR uncomfortable enough towards the end.
As for the snow, we got a little down here in P-town. I was hoping that a snowstorm would make the baby come (4 days late and counting!), as both my husband and I were born during snowstorms, but apparently this one’s holding out for something more dramatic than the measly dusting we got on Sunday night.
I didn’t see snow here, but I did check the Seattle Times online and Holy Snow, Batman! I called my aunt in Eastern Washington and she said they got 14 inches of snow over the weekend. My hat goes off to you for venturing out onto the roads today, and congrats on getting to work safely and on time!
Here in L.A. we’ve had buckets of rain. Already we’re up to 10 inches for the year! And while we do need it, the roads are being washed away and the mudslides are out of control. All this weather madness makes me wish I was living in an environment that can handle wet weather…
Dar: I appreciate your in depth commentary. Yes, Old Country was just not my fave. And now it’s nominated for best picture so that shows you what I know. Re:Sicko, Dude. I know. That one couple that had to move in with their kids because they wiped out their savings with medical bills? Gah. The fast that our independant health insurance is our biggest bill? Make me ill.
beth c: You have a baby now! No more movies for you!
Camille: Yes, I can’t believe I went in, either. If I had seen the snow before I got all ready to go, I would have called in.
