For Swistle*

Last Christmas, this adorable cookie plate and cup was part of Starbucks’ annual holiday shwag. Obviously, having no children, no need for a Santa plate, and the holidays being a time of money hemorrhaging, I resisted purchasing it. Each time I found myself at Starbucks, though, I would touch it longingly, appreciating the raised letters and the cute snowman at the bottom of the cup.

But then! Lo, one day in February at a ‘bucks off the beaten path, behold! On the sale table, there it was.

My Santa plate for $3.99!

How much?

Of course I had put away all the Christmas stuff by then, so the poor thing got shoved in the guestroom closet. I did a dorky little dance of joy when I discovered it there last night.

* Swistle is my blog friend who really appreciates a good bargain. She is also HILARIOUS and has 5 children. Ever wonder what that might be like? Check her out!

$3.99 is practically PAYING YOU to take it!

I LOVE the “we want this out of here” sales at Starbucks.

I picked up an 8 or so oz travel mug for $3.00, and at 10 cents off per drink when I refill it, it’s quite the bargain.

After a mere 30 triple 8 oz Americanos, no room, it paid for itself.

I didn’t sleep for a week, but I saved money, damnit.

Swistle: I KNEW you would appresiate this. :)

NEAL: Hi there! I need a new travel mug. That is definitely a green team measure I could take more often. We have recently cut our coffee trips down to once a week in the interest of thrift, and now that it’s not a pattern, I am out of the habbit of having it with me. Plus, we only have crappy free ones, anyway.

Note to self: Go buy travel mug mom asked for.

Note to Jenny: it is a good green measure. You could use it around the office, and give the *censored*-tard co-worker of yours your pretty ceramic mug. Other green/frugal measure: Thermos. I picked one up for a $1 at an estate sale (20+ years old, aluminum), it keeps the coffee hot for up to 20 hours (If I prepare the thermos with hot water) or 13 without prep. Easily saves us $10 on a Portland trip.

    Excellent tips!

I use a mug at work , for sure. It’s just now that we don’t get coffee as often, I am seldom prepared with my travel mug.

I admire your ability to drink thermos coffee on a roadtip to PDX. I require a tripple grande latte for that trip. No substitutes.
