Let’s just be all done with weirdness. You see, when I reveal weird stuff about myself, your line is, “Oh that’s not weird!” or “You’re such a weirdo but we love you anyway!”, or even, “You should see someone about that,” ….not utter silence. Then I have to use my imagination about what you might be thinking. Moving on! [Edited: My shameless plea for commentary has been answered. You understand, though, right? I thought you guys thought I was nuts.]

In the winter, (oh lets face it, all year) The Mountain often disappears for weeks at a time. Maybe that’s why it always seems like such a treat whenever you get to see it. But sometimes, local residents, does it ever trip you out how friggin huge it is? Even though you may have been looking at it your whole life, are you ever like, what the fuck?

Sunday morning, we got up early to go watch our friend do this crazy, crazy thing called Cycle Cross. Have you heard of this? I was unaware or it’s existence. I guess it’s kind of like a mountain biking competition? Its a bike race, but then there are parts where they have to pick up their bikes and run with them, or jump over things, and it’s all super treacherous and slippery. The brutal factor was dialed up a couple of notches by the snowy weather. It was COLD.

Alex running and jumping!

Freya, in her element.

He survived.

Cah. Razy. I’m glad it got us outside to appreciate the brief snowiness!
ah, The Mountain! I’m so glad it was “out” this weekend. I know i grew up in mountainless, flat-ass Minnesota, but in my 5 years of residence in Tacoma, The Mountain never ceased to amaze me. I remember specifically driving on the 705 towards schuster parkway & not being able to take my eyes off of it one afternoon as the scenery was so spectacular!
xo
Brrrr.
I’m actually using Raineer as the working model for a story I’m writing called King Malcolm and the Mountain. Raineer is “the king” as far mountains go in my book. Literally and figuratively. Thanks for the pic. Made my morning.
Do you know what I like best about the Mt. R photo? The Duris Cucumber Farm billboard in the foreground. It hasn’t changed since I was wee. XO.
T-9 days and I’ll be there to see it in person. Yeehaw!
Great pics, thanks for sharing our morning!
Way to go, Alex!!!
One of my East Coasyt Cousins swears that the mountain is a backdrop that we bring out for guests. She doesn’t believe it’s real. And, she is right that it looks so different from day to day that it looks like different matte shots. Mt. Rainier is like a fashionable gal with an extensive wardrobe, I suppose…
dahli: Ah… I know that view. It is a particulary good one.
Heather: Word. How’s that chilly 68 feeling?
E:Oh! That is so cool! I wanna read it! (Also, I’m sorry but I must say, that you have to spell it correctly in your book. it is R-A-I-N-I-E-R. You can remember it by thinking, “Washington is rainier than anywhwere else! You are excused as an non-native Washingtonian.)
Rona: I love that sign, too. I also remember loving it as a kid. Ah…Puyallup.
Camille: Yay! I hope it actually comes out while you’re here!
Tacoma Friend: Thanks for inviting us!
Noreen: I love that!
I have some relatives from Iowa who don’t believe she exists at all. They have been out to visit TWICE and it hasn’t been out al all either time.
