Let it be noted…

I know I said I wouldn’t complain about my commute anymore after I got my Prius but yesterday’s commute, I feel, must be recorded for posterity’s sake.

Firstly, allow me to share my new fitness plan. These commutes are keeping me from getting back to Tacoma in time for the 6:30 Bikram class. My new plan is to get up at 5:30 (Oh my god), leave the house at 6:30, get to Workplace by 8ish, then get to leave at 4pm. If all goes according to plan, I can make it to my new Bikram place in Bellevue by 4:30. If I can’t make the 5-minutes-without-traffic-distance in time, then theoretically, I will make it back to Tacoma in time for the 6:30 class.

I believe I deserve some sort of commendation for getting up so early in the name of fitness. I know grown-ups have been getting up this early for ages and that my teacher friends have no sympathy, but this is VERY early for me.

Day one worked splendidly! I enjoyed having a bit of a yoga field trip and getting to experience a different studio. Then, to my great delight, the traffic wasn’t so bad afterwards, and I got home around 7pm. So, I was home only about a half hour later than usual, but I had sat in less traffic and been to yoga! Yay me!

Day two of my new regime was yesterday. It did not go so well. The 5-minutes-without-traffic-distance took a WHOLE HOUR, so obviously I didn’t make it to the Bellevue class. No problem, thought I, the Tacoma class will have to do. Unfortunately, I did not make it to that class, either, because I didn’t make it back to Tacoma until 6:40pm.

SIX. FORTY. PEE. EM.

That’s two hours and forty minutes in the car.

I’m not whining. Just recording. I would like to note, however, that in that amount of time, I could have driven to Salem, OR or Vancouver BC. Just sayin’.

  1. Omigod! No kidding … I went home to between PDX & Salem for Thanksgiving and it only took 3 hours. Wow.

5:30 am is VERY early and I do commend you for waking a mere 2 hours after Handsome Randy & I have gone to bed. good for you.
I know it’s frustrating..but every day will not be like yesterday, hopefully more days will be like day one..so hang in there..i see many bikram yoga classes in your future..xo

5:30 is still early for your teacher friends, even though we have to do it too. And I have sympathy for anyone else who does! Hang in there. Ditto to Dahli and it will get better.

Fun re: the new studio! I am loving all of my yoga classes. Can’t wait to show you off to my gurus when you get here.

For the record, I think that working out is great. Bravo on your dedication!

However, getting up at 5:30 is nasty and any commute that takes longer than an hour blows hard. All I can say is you should get a medal.

Lightbulb: With the money you are spending on gas sitting in traffic maybe you could pay for your entire yoga class to meet you half way and an hour earlier? Maybe even have them come all the way to your job with coffee and doughnuts for everyone and that way you don’t have to worry about rush hour at all.

Hope this didn’t sound bitchy. I’m trying to be cheeky.

Yay for Yoga! But I’m sorry traffic has been such a hassle. Prius or not, it’s a lot of time in your car and no one should have to put up with it on a daily basis. I agree with ~e that you should get a medal.

I have not been to yoga as I have been really sick and not getting any better. I was going to go tonight but the body is not happy so we’ll shoot for Sunday. I can’t wait to try out your studio when I come up next month!

By the way, it’s pouring rain today. But I’m ok with that. We really need it! It’s funny though…everyone here is freezing and I am just fine. :) I am a PNW girl at heart!

  6. Noreen says:

WOW! That stinks, Jenny. That’s far too long to be in the car. Sadly, you probably needed yoga more after that commute than when you started. Aaacckk. Your yoga dedication inspires me, though, I have to admit. There’s some sort of paying it forward in this.

  7. Camille says:

P.S. How are these storms affecting your commute?

  8. Kate says:

This sounds like what I hear from my husband every night when he comes home from Redmond. Even when he carpools. You should give him a call; maybe you all could work out a carpool plan, too. He works for that giant software company …

  9. Jenny says:

Chickadee: Do you drive slow? In ideal conditions, I can make it PDX in just under two hours, so I estimated I could make it to Slaem in 2:40. There are hardly ever ideal conditions, though.

dahli: Thanks for the encouragement! You and HR are nocturnal creatures.

Heather: So excited! I can’t wait for a Hong Kong yoga field trip!

    e: Your cheeky-ness is appreciated. :)

Camille: Ha! Way to show those Angelenos how it’s done. Represent!

Noreen: Thanks, love. My dedication is not that impressive. I don’t have a baby!

Camille agian: Thanks for thinking of me! I anwered you in the next post…

Kate; Oh dear. He has my sympathies. I would love to carpool, if he wants to go to yoga with me in Bellevue on the way home! ;)
