Do you read Crazy Aunt Purl? She’s listed over there in my blog idols section, and she is indeed an idol of mine. She was one of the first blogs I ever read, when I didn’t even know what a blog was. Her writing is very inspiring to me. Oh, to be as funny and honest and just plain wonderful as Crazy Aunt Purl.
She wrote a book called Drunk, Divorced & Covered in Cat Hair and the other night she came to Seattle for a reading and signing at the Barnes and Noble downtown. The sad part of the story is that I allowed an hour and forty-five minutes to get there from Redmond, a trip that would take 25 minutes with out traffic, but of course it took two full hours, and I missed the reading part. I arrived for the Q&A section, and when I saw her there, I almost cried. Partly because she’s just so awesome and funny and I was SO BUMMED to have sat in traffic for two hours and still arrived late, but also because I’ve been reading her blog for so long, it felt like I was seeing an old friend for the first time in forever, and I wanted to run up and give her a hug. I restrained myself, thank goodness.
If you are CAP reader, let me just tell you that Laurie is every bit as funny and charming as she is on her blog, but I gotta say far too self deprecating. Maybe it’s just a southern thing, but girl could toot her own horn a bit more, I think. She writes the funniest things about being a single knitter with cats, which is all true, but really, she lives in LA, has a corporate art director job, is a published author, is gorgeous and funny and kickass… *sigh* I have a total girl crush.
Anyway, I got to meet her and get my book signed. I told her that she was very inspiring to me and the reason I ever started blogging and could I please take a picture? She was so nice and normal and even wrote down my blog address. That totally made my day.
I love the internets.
*update*
If you have a minute, you should read Purl’s recount of her Pacific Northwest adventures. We showed well, people! Also, as you might expect from someone who writes a book called Drunk, Divorced & Covered in Cat Hair, she’s seen some dark times, but now she’s living her dream. It’s super inspiring. I recommend grabbing a hankie.
Cool! Looks like you kind of got a shout-out on her blog, too.
You are so lucky (again)! First Eddie and now CAP?!?! I was so hoping she would come here on her book tour, but no such luck. So I will just hope to bump into her while I am in CA for Christmas. What? It could happen!
Looks like fun! I plan on getting the book from the library if there’s any left. Bonus that she live in LA though! Maybe I’ll get the chance to run into her and ask her advice on kitties.
Tacoma Friend: Yes! I’m so glad she had such a good time here.
JayAre: I know, right?
Camille: Lucky you, living so close! You can go meet her any time you want at her Stitch n Bitch. Details on her blog.
