Another glowing review of Hello, Cupcake
September 6, 2007 | City of Destiny

The Tacoma bloggers won’t shut up about Hello, Cupcake and now I know why.
I was having a grumpy sort of day today, and decided a walk and a cupcake might fix me right up. So I strolled down to Pacific, and after poking around a bit in the UWT Bookstore, (sniffing a book or two, touching the satisfying crispness of fresh notebooks) I arrived at Hello, Cupcake, ready to be impressed.
They did not disappoint. I was almost giddy. In fact, it’s so pretty in there, I think I may have teared up a little.
I was soon settled in at the front window bar space with a cup of coffee, The Stranger, and a vanilla cupcake with Chocolate frosting, watching the traffic and the people go by. It. Was. Perfect. And I don’t even like cake very much. Or frosting. This was the perfect amount of sweetness. It made you want to cram the whole thing in your mouth to get more of it, not perform the frosting overload removal process normally necessary with cupcakes.
The coffee was quite good, too, and the perfect accompaniment. I appreciate that the menu is so simple. No froofy, line making espresso drinks, just the cupcakes you see in the case, brewed coffee, tea, and cold milk.
I’m so thrilled to have this option so close by. I have a feeling that I’ll be treating the upcoming seasonal blahs with cupcakes and coffee on a regular basis.
If you haven’t seen them already, please go check out Kevin’s photos here. They’re SO pretty, I didn’t even bother taking any.

We had the exact same morning. Except mine happened a little later, with a four year old, and I didn’t get to have any cupcake. (But she did.) The coffee was great.

Kinda nice but man! What a rip off of Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle.

Or Cupcake Royale in Seattle? Or St. Cupcake in Portland? Or that place in NYC that was in an episode of Sex and the City 100 years ago which they are all probably copied from?
I think the cupcake bakery is what it is and isn’t ripping anyone off anymore. When a new coffee place opens, we don’t say they’re ripping off starbucks, you know?

We do if their colors, their logo, their counters, their websites look almost identical. Don’t get me wrong. I love a new cupcake store but look at their two websites side by side and tell me that it’s not a ripoff. I literraly walked in and thought that Trophy must have opened another loction in Tacoma but the person behind the counter told me that they weren’t related. Whatever, I still heart cupcakes. The more the better.

Wow! You are so right.

They have very similar looking branding. But like you say, pretty cupcake places = always good.

All reviews Ive read have been great towards hello cupcake. But you know, me and my friend must have went on an ‘off’ day for hello cupcake.
They were beyond AWEFULL! Their shop was so cute and the name is so loveable. I was expecting more. The frostings were disgusting, I couldnt even take a second bite of the lemon meringue , and the mocha flavored one was really really bad. Im not trying to be mean, I had high hopes for them. The cake was just sooo dry. I mean, like I said maybe I just got a bad batch??!!

Wow! Cupcake traffic!
Paula: I think their cake definitely has a bit of a chalk-y taste, but personally, I like it. I like that the cake is more of a rich, solid base for their yummy yummy frosting. I can see how some wouldn’t like that, though.
Brenda: Thanks for the linkage. If you are ever in Tacoma, you should check out Hello, Cupcake.

Tried them twice, disapointed twice! We got a dozzen for a birthday, most were very dry! (carrot cake is very good!)
I’m sure people will scoff, but Costco cupcakes are way better and half the price.

For the record, I stand by my review of Hello Cupcake. I recently visited the Ballard location of Cupcake Royale, and the cupcake I had was no where near as crack-a-licios as Hello Cupcakes.
I think perhaps we all have certain cupcake characteristics that we prefer, and I love Hello Cupcake’s cake/frosting combo, composition, and combination. Like I said above, I want to CRAM them in my mouth. If I can slowly nibble and sip my coffee, then it’s just not as good. To me.

Myself and two friends visited hello-cupcake this afternoon. RIP OFF!!!! Is right…
My girlfriend and I have been on a cupcake exploration that has spanned the nation…ok so maybe just Austin, Seattle and Tacoma. Not only are they a total rip off of Trophy, but their cakes are completely boring and unimaginative. We all went into sugar shock and instantly tested positive for diabetes. The best cupcakes so far were discovered in Austin. If you’re ever there check out Sugar Mama’s. Yummy in my big ol’ cupcake tummy.
