SB and I finally made it to Puget Sound Pizza for breakfast this weekend. They’ve been serving breakfast on the weekends for ages, but we often find it difficult to resist the call of the HobNob’s eggs benne.
We were quite pleased with our experience. SB had the Mother and Child Reunion, a disgusting name, but an excellent omelette with chicken, feta cheese, and artichoke hearts. I ordered the Schuster Parkway, the 253 version of the hobo scramble, a delightful mix of eggs, red potatoes, sausage, cheddar cheese, and peppers. (I ordered mine sans onions.)
The coffee was quite good. I’ve gotten so used to the old lady coffee served at most breakfast joints, I’d forgotten it was possible to have a good cuppa when out for breakfast. They were quick to refill our mugs, and the service was friendly and efficient throughout.
The highlight for me was definitely the biscuit (and the Stranger), pictured above. The jam was perfectly tart and the biscuit was buttery and fluffy, not dense like some.
As a frequent visitor to Portland, I often bemoan the lack of comparable breakfast places in Tacoma, so it’s nice to have something to add to the HobNob, Knapps, Harvester rotation, (with better atmosphere and music, too).
Have you done brunch at Doug Fir in PDX? So Awesome. You must if you haven’t yet!
You don’t count The Spar among your breakfast favorites? What kind of breakfast-eater do you call yourself?
That aside, your biscuit looks kickin.
Yummy! Can I please have a bite of that right now? I love finding new breakfast places. Glad your repetoire is expanding there in Tacoma.
You forgot to mention Shakabrah as a favorite though, which would make BP very, very sad.
serror: Oooh! I love the Doug Fir, but I’ve only been there at night for shows. I’ll definitely give that a try.
Jesse: Um… I guess I didn’t know The Spar did breakfast. Well! I must give it a try.
Jill: I like Shakabrah, but you could go harvest your own potatoes and raise chickens for the eggs sometimes before your breakfast comes. The service there is that SLOOOOOW.
The Spar does b-fast on weekends and I’d say about 90% of the time it’s the best greasy-spoon b-fast I’ve had. I say 90% because last time it was a little iffy with eggs. Mostly, though, it’s great.
Jesse
But the mother/child reunion is only a motion away! And yum, you make me feel like I am missing out because we don’t have breakfast out. And it’s such a good meal.
That looks really good! As a previous resident of Portland now living in Redmond OR, I bemoan the serious-ass lack of good restaurants, breakfast or otherwise.
Moan. Moan.
I recently made a list of good restaurants in town, and boy was it short! There are five. FIVE. Total! Yes.
But that’s okay, Portland is only 3 hours away…
Shawn: Why not? Going out for breakfast is my favorite thing in the whole world. There are so many yummy breakfast foods that are too much of a PITA to make at home, like eggs benne, waffles, omelettes…
Occidental Girl: Oh, honey. I feel for you. SB and I want to move to PDX some day, but we were just saying, if we do, we have to stay there forever, because anyplace else would be such a step down in coolness factor, environmental friendliness, and of course, breakfast options.
Old Milwaukee is our new favorite. I keep hearing about PSP though and glad to hear another great review
