“Oh!”
March 14, 2007 | FUN!
Towards the beginning of the night, I properly met the Dude. He was very nice, though a little drunky and grope-y, in that way that old men can get away with. Dude was very impressed with my costume. He laughed a great wheezy, belly laugh and told me I was perfect. We had a nice little chit chat, and I was on my way. SB had my camera, though, so none of this was photographed.
(”And in fact he met privately with the President, though unfortunately there wasn’t time for a photo opportunity.”)
A couple of hours later, I was bowling. I’d taken my first roll, leaving only the 9 pin standing. I was about to take my next shot, when all of a sudden, the Dude himself came up to me, right there on the lanes, and started dancing with me. All bowling ceased around us, as a crowd gathered to watch me and The Dude. We danced for a couple of minutes, flashes going off all around.

After a minute or two, I told him it was my roll, and he grandly gestured that I should take it. As I started to line up my shot, I hear The Dude just over my right shoulder say, “Pick up that spare.”
What an epic moment! The Dude himself was right there! The crowd watching! Flashbulbs popping! With everything in me, I prayed that I would make that shot.

Of course I missed it. As my ball passed a hair’s breadth to the left of the 9, the crowd provided the sympathetic, “Oh!”
Then the dude wandered off, the crowd dispersed, and the sparkly moment dissolved. I can still hear The Dude, “Pick up that spare…”
