Hi!
I hope you didn’t worry that New York ate me because I was gone for so long. We had THE BEST time. In fact, we’re having some serious New York withdrawals right now. It seems like in New York there are adventures every where you look. Not so much, back here in rainy ol’ soggy Tacoma. When we were coming around I-705 the other night when we got home, the lovely view of T-town I usually appreciate so much depressed me a little, I must admit. If you can see your whole city in one glance, it’s NOT New York.
I took over 400 pictures and have many, many stories. I could do a month of New York posts, but I think I will do one day at a time. The first night, we arrived at JFK around 7pm and headed out to Queens where our friends Steve and Amy, Our Incredible Hosts live, near the last stop on the N train. Everyone was starving so we headed out to their favorite neighborhood place Fatty’s Cafe.
First I have to back up and say that one of the most fantastic things about New York to me is that you walk everywhere. I love looking at all the interesting little houses and business all crammed together in every available space. Queens kind of reminds me a little bit of Liverpool, the way the tacky signs and old brick buildings jumble together to make beauty. I was having an awesome time just getting to leave the house on foot and a few minutes later be in a warm and flickering little cafe with great food and stiff drinks.
It was a great night of laughing and catching up and TOO MUCH DRINKING. The details are a little fuzzy, though I remember the owner who is of course pals with Our Incredible Hosts spoiling us with rounds he wasn’t even participating in. He also took us next door for a sneak peek at the very cool wine bar he is opening soon. It was all dark and cozy and very speakeasy-like.
It was SO GOOD to see our friends. They were so easy to be with, very fun and positive. I promise days 2-5 were more exciting and will include more illustrative pictures. The late arrival and the alcohol sort of kept us from seeing much the first day.
Here are some pictures I took throughout our trip of Queens to entertain you in the meantime:

Once you read my most recent post about missing the west coast you’ll laugh. I love NY too, but living there? It takes a special kind of person. I’m so glad you had a wonderful time, though. Thank you again for being our Incredible Host our first night in T-town. We miss you guys terribly, but as Beth tells me, just imagine that if we lived closer we’d annoy the hell out of each other. I wanna see some New Year’s Eve photos!
Welcome home my friend! I can’t wait to see the ENTIRE collection of 400 photos. I need to get my NY fix vicariously through you. I’m thinkin’ maybe I’ll visit there in June….
Oh thank god! I’VE been having serious zesty withdrawals, since I didn’t visit any exotic locales this winter. We’re headed to NYC for my spring break at the end of March, so bring on the recommendations!
ooohhh just the tip of the iceberg. I can’t wait to see more pics and hear more stories. I have always always wanted to go to New York City!
Okay, so that second comment is from me, not from M’s & P’s baby, but apparently I can’t spell my own friggin’ middle name. Geesh.
Jill: I would love to live in NYC. We will someday, I’m sure of it. I hate to burst Beth’s bubble but I don’t think we’d bug eachother if we lived closer. It makes me so sad that we don’t.
Rowena: I thought you were being a little cleer with your name, but Rowen’s cool. June, you say? All the times I’v visited nyc it has been winter. I would love to go this summer!
beth c: You’re going in March? Just for un? That’s so cool. You will love every minute of it!
Colleen: Nothing compares to NYC. It has to be seen to be believed.
welcome back! bring the pictures will you next weekend! I have never been to NYC, so I can live through you!
V: I should have them by then. I ordered all 400 or whatever. It was too hard to go through and cut some.
